What would you do if you could ski any hour of the day? In The Road to Riksgränsen, a new three-party series, Paddy Graham and Kristoffer Turdell make a trip up to the Arctic, chasing spring snow under 24-hour light.

The two freeride skiers travel throughout northern Sweden and Norway in May, going after remote lines and camping on the beach. They cap off their trip at the annual Scandinavian Big Mountain Championships, one of the longest standing freeride competitions that’s been held annually in May since 1992.

Riksgränsen, Sweden’s northernmost ski town, is where the trip begins and ends. It’s just two hours north of where Turdell grew up—where freeride skiers flock to in May as the rest of the season winds down.

Ben Richards and Jasper Rogers are fueling the fire of mid-summer winter stoke in their latest film “Don’t Quote Me.”

The 5-minute film, shot on location at Eagle Pass Heli in Revelstoke, BC, features 15-year-old Australian skier Jasper Rogers as he skis alongside his mentor, Kiwi skier Ben Richards, who’s been competing on the Freeride World Tour since 2024.

Big airs, pillow fields and plenty of deep snow are the perfect backdrop for the pair to sample BC’s cold smoke.

There are summer ski turns. And then there’s Jim Ryan and Madison Rose Ostergren’s version of summer skiing.

Patchy snow in Grand Teton National Park, WY serves as the perfect venue for Jim and Mads to scratch their August skiing itch, with descents of the Grand and Middle Teton.

But the way these two ski, lightweight touring skis aren’t gonna cut it. Rocketing fast turns down the Middle Teton Glacier is a worthy reward for hauling resort boots and skis 6,000 feet up into the alpine.

Cool off from the summer heat with Veronica Paulsen‘s latest episode, featuring a spring ski trip to California’s Eastern Sierras.

Summer may have just begun, but we’re already dreaming of winter. Jackson, WY-based skier Veronica Paulsen took a roadtrip out to California in late spring this year, squeezing as much as she could out of the 2024/2025 season. Added bonuses: quality time with friends, luxury camping, and hero corn skiing. What more could you ask for?

Shoulder season in Alberta hits a sweet spot. It’s cold enough up high to ski and warm enough down low to fish. In “Transitions – The Bow,” Kate and Garrett find magic in the Northern Rockies—a springtime routine packed with slushy park laps with friends and fishing for brown trout on the Bow River. Often in the same day.

There are spines. And then there are Haines, AK spines.

Parkin Costain’s compilation of spine shredding from last season puts it all into perspective. Last spring, Costain spent a few weeks up north filming at SEABA Heli with Teton Gravity Research. The trip culminated in a first descent of a line Costain had been looking at since he first skied with SEABA almost 10 years ago, the legendary Mono Spine.

Read more about Costain’s first descent of the Mono Spine in “Don’t Tell Mama,” published in TSKJ 18.3.

There’s steep skiing. And then there’s big wall skiing. Photojournalist Matthew Tufts was drawn to El Chaltén many years ago, a small village at the foot of the Fitz Roy massif in Argentine Patagonia. The steep, iconic granite walls have held a prominent place in the climbing community for decades, but it wasn’t until the 1990s, when Argentine guide Max Odell started pioneering ski lines in the area, that skiers began to journey to the steep, unforgiving ski mountaineering terrain.

Tufts has dedicated many seasons to rooting himself in the small, but hardy mountain community in El Chaltén, always staying for weeks or months on end to truly immerse himself in the place. It’s not an easy place to ski—long approaches on dirt, volatile weather, impossibly steep ski lines. But that’s part of the allure.

Every ski line comes with its fair share of mileage on dirt to access. Bruchez, Lardy and Socié hauling camp into the Fitz Roy. Photo: Matthew Tufts

In September 2023, French skiers Vivian Bruchez, Aurel Lardy and Jules Socié arrived in El Chaltén for the first time, on a mission to pioneer new ski lines and get to know the ski community.

“Painting the Mountains” is a story about skiing, but it’s equal parts a story about the craft behind documenting the complex and multi-faceted sport. As Bruchez, Lardy and Socié make their mark on ski descents most would classify as climbing routes—narrow swaths of snow clinging to 50+ degree granite walls—the audience gets a glimpse into Tufts’ process documenting some of the steepest lines that have been skied in the region.

When Thea Kopala Rhøme and Lisen Strøm set off for a four-day traverse of Loppa, an Arctic peninsula in northern Norway, they knew they would be entirely alone.

The northernmost county in Finnmark, Loppa is only accessible by boat, with a population of less than 900 people. With massive glaciers, deep fjords and steep couloirs that run right down to the sea, it’s heaven for skiers—if you can get there.

Enthralled by the possibility of exploring seldom-traveled terrain, relying entirely on their own mountain skillsets, Strøm and Rhøme dreamed up a four-day traverse of Loppa, linking together ski lines and hauling overnight gear on their backs.

Steep terrain and heavy packs. An arduous combo. Photo: Rab/Anders Vestergaard

Strøm, a ski racer turned big mountain skier, has honed her skills in the mountains to bring fast and powerful skiing into the backcountry. Rhøme is an experienced ski and climbing guide, currently training to become IFMGA-certified. The two had met not long before planning the trip, but knew that their unique backgrounds would compliment each other well on a big adventure in the Arctic.

“Oddysey of Loppa” chronicles Strøm and Rhøme’s ambitious traverse (alongside filmmaker Anders Vestergaard), skiing almost 40 miles and 15,000 vertical feet of technical terrain, all while carrying 65-pound packs. The journey was filled with long days, cold nights, uncertainty about the route and conditions, and steep, aesthetic couloirs—an odyssey through and through.

Fortune has many definitions. To Hadley Hammer, it’s not monetary, but measured by moments and friendships and windows into new cultures—everything that professional skiing has given her these past 13 years.

Hammer just announced her retirement from professional skiing, using her skis instead to focus on a career in storytelling. Skiing has taken Hammer all over the world, connected her with lifelong friends and opened her eyes to new people and places. Born and raised in Jackson, WY, she now calls Chamonix, France home. Now, she’s looking ahead to devoting her career to telling stories about the sport she loves.

“Fortune,” filmed and edited by Sophie Danison from a trip to Hokkaido, Japan, is a letter of gratitude to skiing—reflections on all that she’s been fortunate to experience in the fast-paced life of a professional skier, a poetic voiceover by Hammer herself, mixed with some dreamy powder turns.

We’re excited to see what comes next for Hadley Hammer.
