Jackson Hole’s “Gunrunners”

What happens when the sun goes down at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort? The gunrunning team is just getting started.

Jackson Hole’s new short film, Gunrunners, highlights the team of snowmakers responsible for filling the resort’s slopes with artificial snow. It’s a dangerous job, performed mostly at night when the temps drop—working on snow machines, battling brutal cold, navigating winch cat cables and managing high pressure air and water. It takes a whole lot more than just hitting the “on” switch on the snow guns. And with dozens of guns blowing snow at once, crews create a microclimate, fabricating an intense snowstorm on a few areas of the mountain. It’s easy to get lost and disoriented on the most familiar runs.

There’s always an early-season push to get the resort open, but the snowmaking efforts continue all season long to make the most of cold Wyoming nights. This short film shines a light on the unsung heroes of snowmaking, working hard to get the mountain open in just a few short months from now.
